Week One - Critical Response Process

March 4, 2007

Piero and Breck started the first class off with a discussion of the words "Refract, Reflect, Project," which is the title of the latest special exhibition at the Hirshhorn Museum. After sharing our thoughts on the meaning of these words, each person had 20 minutes to create three art works - one piece to represent each of the three words.

When we completed our pieces, the class was introduced to the "Critical Response Process" which we used as a guide for discussing each other's work. These quick, sculptural "sketches" got us thinking about how we might approach the design and execution of our final piece, which we will complete at the end of the five-week workshop.
